How To Get Started In Trials Biking

Beginner Tutorials & Resources

There are a number of resources online to help you get started. While this is not an exhaustive list, hopefully it will get you heading in the right direction. We’ll start with a few pointers, and follow-up with links to some resources.

Trials Tutorials

  • Our playlist of some trials biking tutorials – This list includes some basics as well as some advanced tricks – you might want to curate your own playlist for your own personal use. These are a collection of some of our favorites to help you get started. In some cases there are multiple tutorials by different people for the same moves (or whatever), because sometimes having a variety of different perspectives helps.
  • Your Complete Guide to Trials Riding – Street Trials Augmented edition, by Julien Happich – This book covers just about everything for learning to ride trials, from getting started to advanced moves.
  • TrashZen – This site is a fantastic resource. Take some time to explore this site and keep going back. The tutorials will make more and more sense the more you ride and gain some experience. This website is the companion for the “Your Complete Guide to Trials Riding” book.
  • SuperRider – Aaron Lutze has created a whole series of tutorials, some of which are included in the playlist mentioned above.
  • Ryan Bratton has a good introduction to getting started. Ryan also shows that you can ride trials on a mountain bike.

Online Communities

Check out the bike trials Discord server – it’s a great place for beginners to engage in discussion with other riders for coaching support. Want to go deeper? Our Get Involved page has a list of even more online communities, local groups, and competition info.

Buying a Trials Bike

Buying trials bikes and parts, in no particular order (not sure what type of trials bike to buy?):
